Essential Responsibilities

"Pontefract Squash & Leisure Club enjoys a reputation second to none for squash.
But we’re much more than just squash. This is a dynamic, multi-purpose club at the heart of the community — and managing it is a role that brings both challenge and opportunity in equal measure."
Key Responsibilities
- Marketing and Promotion – Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract new members and promote events in the club. Ensure that the club achieves its potential and rooms are fully booked.
- Business Development – Identify and implement strategies to increase revenue and expand the club.
- Financial Management – Take responsibility for managing budgets, generating income, and growing the club’s financial position. Prepare financial reports and set targets for growth.
- Staff Management – Manage a team of staff including recruitment, training, and supervision.
- Operational Management – Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day running and management of the club.
- Customer Service – Provide excellent customer service and ensure member needs are met. Handle complaints when required.
- Health and Safety – Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe environment for members and staff.
- Facility Management – Ensure the facility is maintained to a high standard, with all maintenance and repairs kept up to date.
Person Specification
- Marketing and Sales – Knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques to grow the club’s membership.
- Leadership and Management – Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
- IT Systems – A good working knowledge of IT systems and software relevant to club operations.
- Customer Service – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with members professionally.
- Financial Acumen – Understanding of budgets, financial planning, and reporting.
- Organisational Skills – Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritise effectively.
- Problem Solving – Ability to identify, address, and resolve issues or complaints efficiently.
- Self-Motivation – Able to work unsupervised and use initiative to complete tasks.
- Teamwork – Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Reporting Skills – Capable of reporting clearly and accurately to the board and external bodies when required.
- Negotiation Skills – Able to secure the best possible contracts and agreements with external service providers.
- Ability to Work Under Pressure – Remain calm and effective when managing multiple demands or challenges.
